This cameo is a true carved shell cameo with a signature on the back. The carving is of a classical woman, perhaps Hera. She is donning pearls and roses in her hair and a flower at her shoulder. This is not a typical "profile only" cameo, because it shows the top part of her torso also. You can tell that it is a superior cameo by the intricacy shown in the tendrils of her hair. This piece is framed in a lovely sterling frame with a delicate rope surround. It has a c clasp and is also ready for use as pendant. This cameo measures 1 3/4" high by nearly 1 1/2" wide. It does have some type of writing on the back of the shell, but it is illegible to me. I would assume it is the name of the artist who made this piece.
